We often say that the summer is quiet for events in the observatory, since our official visitor season wraps up in late March each year, but we have been keeping ourselves busy since then so we wanted to collate some of those activities together to share what we have been up to.
NOCTURNE
We were delighted to partner with New Music Dublin for a performance of Nocturne, composed by Ann Cleare at the observatory on the 2nd of April. The event comprised of a 90-minute immersive journey with performances from a group of musicians across the indoor and outdoor space of the observatory.
Space Crafts Workshop 6
Finishing off our school visits for this academic year, we hosted the 6th of our Space Crafts workshops. This workshop focused on the sun and its movement as well as the processes of making cyanotypes. The students created some wondering individual pieces as well as this fantastic collaboration piece!
TUD SPACEFest
Our friends at TUD were busy running SpaceFest at the start of June and came to visit us for a special SPACEFest visitor night! This was of course different to our usual visitor nights because it was still bright during the event, but we still had some great talks from our staff and even had a look at the South Telescope!
Castleknock Village Festival
Some of our staff recently spent a Sunday in Castleknock for the village festival. We had plenty of flyers, stickers and worksheets for kids as well as a raffle to win a family pass for Culture Night, on the 19th of September, which will be our first public event for our upcoming season!
Plein Air Painting Festival
Most recently we were thrilled to welcome the Dublin Plein Air Painting Festival to Dunsink for the summer solstice. Each artist created beautiful pieces and we were delighted to see the observatory through the lens of so many talented artists.
That is just a taste of what we have been up to lately. We are working hard to set our calendar for our upcoming season of events so keep an eye on our events calendar for updates!
